![]() If your family is as busy as mine, with Halloween only two days away, it's very likely you might be short a costume! But, no need to worry! Believe it or not, there are plenty of things you can whip up at home. Disney Family Fun has as a full list of homemade costumes that take little to no time to put together. Most of the supplies are things you probably already have around the house. Last minute costumes can often end up being the best costumes. Use a little eyeliner to draw a few whiskers on their face. Or, an old white sheet can turn into a really great mummy. Whatever you choose, the time you spend together creating the costume will be just enjoyable as the costume itself. So, get creative and have some fun! ![]() OK, so I wrote a book... now what??? Even my publisher warned me that most authors think the hard part is the actual writing of the book - but in reality, the real challenge is promoting the book, promoting yourself, getting your message "out there", etc. I must admit I have had a blast these last few months, meeting people, speaking at schools, corporations, at events, groups, etc. I LOVE THAT! I love speaking, sharing my message of encouragement. I really do believe that each and every one of us it placed on the earth for greatness - our dreams are the little nudges to get us going in the direction that will be best for our own unique journey. I love seeing the hope in your eyes as you believe that my book, This Is Your Year, will inspire, educate, motivate and empower you to pursue your dream life!! What I don't enjoy? Promoting the books signings. It feels downright odd asking people to come to buy my book so I can sign it!! HA HA! My dream has never been to be a New York Times Bestselling author (OK - It would be wonderful, but not my purpose!). My dream is truly to make a difference in the lives of thousands of young people - I want to shorten their learning curve! I really wish I would have had someone give me this book when I was young, with no direction, no guidance, no help. I have had incredible success in my life, but I learned everything the hard why - by my own experineces!!! I have a couple of God given gifts - writing and speaking! I am going to focus all of my efforts on using those gifts to inspire, motiviate, educate and empower women (ok and men too) to find their passion, their heart's desire and pursue their dreams to live a fabulous life! AND BTW - if you are doing that, you will bump into a few people along the way and your light will encourage them to pursue their dreams and WOW - wouldn't the world be a better place???!!! Love, Shelly ![]() 6. SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE WORK OUTSIDE OF THEIR COMFORT ZONE. To get what you have never gotten, you must do what you have never done! Succesful people are willing to get uncomfortable! Too many people let fear get in the way, so they stay inside of their comfort zone and end up living an ordinary life. I like to consider the risk/reward ratio when I am faced with a decision. I think about the action necessary to accomplish the task, look at the time energy and effort involved. Is this in-line with my purpose, goals & dreams? Then If I say YES and take this risk: 1. What is the absolute best possible outcome? 2. What is the worst thing that may happen? 3. What is most likely going to happen if I take this opportunity? If even the worst case scenario will give me an opportunity to grow and learn and get me closer to fulfilling my dreams in life - I will GO FOR IT! ![]()
![]() 5. THEY AVOID THE TRAP OF TRYING TO MAKE THINGS PERFECT. This is an area that I have had to work on, being a Controller Personality Type - I happily claimed my perfectionism! It has taken years of growth and personal development to allow me to change my thinking - most of the time! Ha! Perfectionism is a common form of erroneous thinking that leads to procrastination. Believing that you must do something perfectly is a recipe for stress, and you'll associate that stress with the task and condition yourself to avoid it. So you put the task off to the last possible minute until you finally have a way out of this trap -- now there isn't enough time to do the job perfectly, so your're off the hook because you can tell yourself that you could have been perfect if only you would of had more time! The solution to perfectionism is to give yourself permission to be human. Have you ever used a piece of software that you consider to be perfect in every way? No way. Realize that an imperfect job completed today is always superior to the perfect job delayed indefinitely. If you are a proud perfectionist, do yourself a favor and Lower your standards to EXCELLENCE! |
